hint: it's not because you chose the wrong career
Its not hopeless, you can remember and even design a job BETTER than what you thought you signed up for
(Because it's nice to dream about what would be great, but if you can't make it happen who cares?)
I know because I did it.
Less than 3 years out of fellowship I woke up daily dreading going to work.
I wondered every day what the heck I had gotten 250k into debt for and how I could get out
I now work on MY terms and love my job again.
Because I'm doing EXACTLY what I was always supposed to do. And I'm paid well to do it.
